chinese beef and broccoli

Beef and broccoli is one of the most popular Chinese stir fry dishes but I’m not actually sure whether Beef and Broccoli is a westernized version of a Chinese dish, or whether it is in fact just a Western Chinese dish. I got this recipe from my mom tho. cause she made this dish since i was a kid.

ingredients:
  • 300 gram beef flank steak, sliced
  • 1/2 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 2 teaspoons vegetable or canola oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground white pepper

For the Sauce:
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 teaspoons oyster sauce
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch

For the Stir-Fry:
  • 250 gr  broccoli
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable
  • 2 whole shallots, sliced
  • 4 cloves of garlic, diced
direction:
  1. Marinate the beef first. In a medium bowl, combine beef with all marinade ingredients. Mix well and leave it for 30 minutes.
  2. Meanwhile, For the Sauce: In a small bowl, combine sauce ingredients and set aside.
  3. Now lets cook the broccoli first. Fill a wok halfway with water, season with salt, and bring to a boil. Add the broccoli and cook about 1 minute.
  4. Wipe wok dry, then return to heat. Add 1 tablespoon oil and heat over high heat until smoking. Add beef and cook without moving until lightly browned on bottom. Continue to cook while stirring regularly until about halfway cooked through. Transfer to a bowl and set aside.
  5. In a cleaned wok, add 1 tablespoon oil to wok and heat over high heat until smoking. Add shallots and garlic and cook until the fragrance come out then add the broccoli and cook for a minute.
  6. Return beef to wok and combine with the broccoli. Season with salt and pepper.
  7. Mix the sauce ingredients in a small bowl then pour into center of wok; stir to combine. Continue to cook, stirring, until the sauce begins to thicken.
  8. now enjoy and serve with rice
